Firmware: V3.40 - V3.00 - V2.80 - V2.70 - V2.60 - V2.50 - V2.40 - V2.30

The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

  1. Turn on the GPS.
  2. Press the MENU key twice.
  3. "Setup" is now highlighted, press the ENTER key.
  4. "System" is now highlighted, press "up" and "left" once. "About" should now be highlighted - if not, navigate through the Setup until About is highlighted.
  5. Press the ENTER key.
  6. The system will display the firmware version at the second line ("Software Version") and the unit ID on the third line, followed by various copyright information.
  7. Press the QUIT key to return to the previous page.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.


Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.40:

IMPORTANT: If you are a user of BaseCamp now, or plan to be in the future, you must follow these steps to ensure your data is protected during this software update:

  1. Connect your handheld unit to a computer and launch BaseCamp.
  2. Transfer all tracks, routes and waypoints to BaseCamp.
  3. Delete the /Garmin/GPX folder from the handheld's mass storage.
  4. Update the handheld's software via Web-Updater and reboot the handheld.
  5. Reconnect the handheld to a computer and transfer your data from BaseCamp back to the handheld.

Changes:

  1. Added support for advanced geocache logging with OpenCaching.com. See TrailTech for more information.
  2. Fixed issue with multilingual custom POI files.
  3. Fixed issue with setting proximity alerts. The unit of measure can be changed by entering the 'Proximity Alarms' page, pressing the 'Menu' key, and selecting 'Change Units'.

Changes made from version 2.80 to 3.00:

  1. Updated magnetic Earth field data.
  2. Improved GPS performance.
  3. Improved support for BirdsEye Satellite ImageryTM (each provider's imagery can be configured independently).
  4. Increased the maximum number of supported JNX files to 250 from 200.
  5. Fixed issues with WAAS/EGNOS.
  6. Fixed issue with track navigation sometimes not adding waypoints to the Active Route list.
  7. Fixed issue with track and route review from the map page if you came from the elevation plot.
  8. Fixed issue with MPC map labels disappearing.
  9. Fixed issue with gpi files that have alerts attached to the points.
  10. Fixed issue with progress bar displaying properly on power up.
  11. Fixed issue with track navigation not adding waypoints to the Active Route list when they are exactly equal to a track point.
  12. Fixed shutdown when unit had more than the maximum number of JNX files on it.
  13. Fixed shutdown related to topographical maps and land cover text size.
  14. Fixed Glide Ratio to Destination field.
  15. Fixed problem with profiles and the fields on the map page.
  16. Fixed an issue with magnetic north reference and waypoint headings.
  17. Fixed shutdown on the map screen when a waypoint was being moved to the same location as a geocache or other POIs.
  18. Fixed issue where proximity waypoint alerts could only be set in feet regardless of what was selected as a Distance/Speed unit in the setup page.
  19. Fixed an issue with archived tracks not displaying properly.
  20. Fixed an issue with having too many custom symbols on the device.
  21. Modified the 'Arriving at Destination' message banner so that it no longer appears when navigating to a geocache.

Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.80:

  1. Fixed shutdown related to the current track that occurred after updating the software.
  2. Fixed a hang that occurred when a unit had 1000 auto-named waypoints.
  3. Fixed issue with marine map points sometimes drawing with the incorrect symbol.

  1. Fixed issue while using spell search in route planner.

  15. Updated map review of tracks and routes. The distance shown is now the distance along the route or track.

Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.40:

  1. Improved display of position formats on keyboard page.
  2. Fixed problem with position entry when using Latvian TM position format.
  3. Removed occasional screen glitch when routes are being calculated.
  4. Added Spanner interface option to 62 models (Note by TRAMsoft: Spanner allows to use the USB port with most NMEA 0183 compliant mapping programs by creating a virtual serial port).

GARMIN GPSmap 62 GARMIN GPSmap 62s GARMIN GPSmap 62st Rugged hand held GPS receiver with large color display, integrated base map, auto-routing and USB interface. The GPSmap 62s and 62st are additionally equipped with an electronic compass, a barometrical altimeter, a slot for an optional uSD memory card, a connector for an external antenna and support for wireless communication with compatible devices.
