GARMIN Zumo 550

Rugged GPS receiver with very fast auto-routing and route optimization, voice guidance, color display with touchscreen, integrated world and Europe/Africa map, pre-installed detailed map of Europe plus USB and BlueTooth interface. Equipped with MP3 player and image viewer. Traffic receiver and travel guides available as options. Well suited for all kinds of vehicles, particularly motor bikes, but also suitable as hand held device.

The GARMIN Zumo 550 provides very fast automatic route calculation and optimization by reordering routes with multiple via-points, visual and voice guidance, has a large, easy to read color display with touchscreen, an extremely sensitive antenna, an integrated world map (overview) plus a base map of Europe, Africa and the near East. It has a multi-lingual user interface and is easy to use, either via the touchscreen or the conveniently located buttons.
The Zumo 550 has enough built-in memory to store pre-installed, detailed maps of all of Europe with even more information, such as local roads, restaurants and points of interest. A DVD City Navigator Europe V9 NT plus a free unlock code is also included. In addition, it is equipped with approx. 300 MB memory to store information such as waypoints, MP3 files and pictures. This model also has a speech computer to announce the names of the roads and to read audible books.
The Zumo 550 is equipped with a BlueTooth interface to communicate with mobile phones which have the required communication capabilities in order to call car rental offices, hotels, restaurants etc. whose phone numbers are stored on the GPS with a single touch on the screen. It can also act as a hands-free extension set to the phones.
Finally, the Zumo 550 has a slot for an optional SD memory module to store additional detailed maps or data such as MP3 files or images and it supports an optional TMC receiver to incorporate traffic news. It provides navigation information outdoors, in a car, in a train or even in an airplane (see MapSource examples).

• Integrated base map of Europe, Africa and the near East with countries, waters, towns, highways, major roads and city maps. Navigational information are available for the following countries: country list.
• Built-in memory with pre-installed detailed map of Europe (City Navigator Europe V9 NT) with local roads, addresses and points of interest plus slot for SecureDigital memory card (SD memory cards available as options).
• Routing speed: 12.77 (see GPS Routing Speed for details).
• Supports optional FM traffic news receiver. Receives and processes traffic news messages broadcasted by radio stations. If the GPS receives a message about a traffic jam, blocked road etc. along the planned route, it can automatically compute a detour. Traffic news messages are broadcasted by many radio stations in various European countries including Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. These messages are broadcasted for free and do not require any subscriptions. The TMC receiver works independent from the car radio and finds stations with traffic news messages automatically.
• BlueTooth interface to communicate with mobile phones which have the required communication capabilities in order to call car rental offices, hotels, restaurants etc. whose phone numbers are stored on the GPS with a single touch on the screen. It can also act as a hands-free extension set to the mobile phones. The Zumo 550 is equipped with a built-in microphone. An external microphone is available as an option for all thre models.
• MP3 player, listen to your favorite music while travelling
• Audible book reader, reads audible books; download audible books from the Internet
• Picture viewer, displays pictures and provides various options, such as zooming, rotation and autoplay slide show.
• Various travel guides available as options.
• Suited as a hand held device or to be used in any kind of vehicles. Comes with power cable and mounting kit with suction cup for quick mounting and dismounting to easily remove the GPS receiver (seamless switching between cars, theft protection etc.), does not require any installation.
• Mounting kit for motor bikes plus power cord with open ends is also included.
• Large, illuminated, easy to read LCD display with automatic backlight adjustment, dimension: 72x54 mm (2.8x2.1 inches), resolution: 320x240 pixels, 65536 colors.
• Easy to operate via touchscreen or conveniently located buttons. The later is particularly useful when wearing gloves while driving a motor bike.
• Manual or automatic switching of the display between daytime and nighttime, based on time and the current position (changes the colors of the display between sunset and sunrise for more comfortable viewing) Daytime: bright background, nighttime: dark background.
• Water resistant up to approx. 3 feet (1 meter) for about 30 minutes (conforms to IPX7).
• Powered by built-in battery (lasts up to 4 h) or by an external 12/24 V power source, such as car's cigarette lighter or a connector on a motor bike. One power cord with a plug for cigarette lighter plus one power cord with open ends included. Battery user replaceable, replacement battery available as an option.
• Short time to first fix (TTFF¹: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available).
• Data exchange with PC via USB connector (connection cable included).
• Supports WAAS/EGNOS
• Firmware stored in Flash-Memory, can be updated by the user

• Automatic computing of a route to a user selected destination including one or more optional via-points. The GPS can optimize routes with multiple via-points by reordering the via-points to the shortest possible route.
