The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

1. Press the Mode key until you see the main menu screen.
2. Select "SETTINGS" and press the Enter key.
3. Select "GENERAL" and press the Enter key.
4. Select "ABOUT FORERUNNER" and press the Enter key.
5. The current firmware version will be displayed.
6. Press the Enter key to quit the screen.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.

Changes made from version 3.10 to 3.20: (released 05/19/2006)

1. Fixed problem with sending data to Training Center.

Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.10:

1. Break track up into two parts if user turns Forerunner 301 off in the middle of a run.
2. Don't allow max HR to be 0.
3. Improve custom target values for workouts.
4. When viewing workouts, use speed/pace settings for current workout not current sport.
5. Improved conversion of high and low end speed and pace values.
6. Allow nRoute to display maps that have been unlocked for this device.
7. Fix problem with Data Page Auto Switch not showing Lap Timer Page.
8. Don't allow more than the max number of steps in a workout.
9. Fix problem with constantly pausing and resuming at certain Autopause values.
10. Improved handling of stopping Virtual Partner after a Reset.
11. Fixed problem where Flag could not be selected for a waypoint symbol.
12. Improved Swedish translations.

Changes made from version 2.60 to 3.00: (released 07/12/2005)

1. Added MultiSport functionality. Please see Owner's Manual Rev. D or newer. Also, please see our new Quick-Release accessory.
2. Reset timer is now forced when deleting a lap of a current run.
3. Allowed for deleting entire sport history or entire history for all sports. Removed delete history for one year.
4. Fixed bug where interval training count-down alert was sounding when timer was turned off.
5. Fixed bug where Virtual Partner history goals were set to zero after training was manually ended.

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60: (released 02/22/2005)

1. Added heart rate icon and BPM number to the upper right of the Virtual Partner page.
2. Corrected Rest Time display in Interval Training History.
3. Fixed problem where last lap in Workout History could never be marked as rest.
4. Fixed problem where the wrong number of bytes was sometimes sent for USB get requests.
5. Changed lap triggering to not save a lap that starts and ends on the same second.
6. Fixed problem where workout steps lasting over 10 minutes would not work correctly.

Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.50:

1. Updated translations for German and Italian languages.
2. Clear active track when current run is deleted from history.
3. Fixed bug where rapidly pressing START/STOP/START and then resetting would cause invalid Run data to be stored.
4. Fixed bug where AutoPausing would cause Training Center graph to be off.
5. Improved track log recording around breaks in the track.
