The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.

To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:

1. Go to the main menu.
2. Select "System" and press the ENTER key.
3. Press the Menu key to access the submenu.
4. Select "Software Version" and press the ENTER key.
5. The current firmware version will be displayed on the screen.
6. Press the ENTER key to quit the screen.

Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.

Changes made from version 3.90 to 4.00: (released 05/26/2009)

1. Fixed several errors in NMEA statements introduced in 3.90.
2. Fixed WAAS information not showing 'D' in satellite bars. Error was introduced in 3.90.
3. Other minor bug fixes.

20. Make route recalculation on MPC maps (MapSource Custom maps) behave like City Navigator maps.
21. Remove lithium ion as a battery choice.

Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60: (released 02/22/2006)

1. Improve compatibility with nRoute PC application.
2. Add compass hold level indicator.
3. Improve elevation level display to show maximum values.
4. Increase loadable maps to 2025.
5. Improve anchor drag alarm tone so that it stays on until the user clears it with the appropriate key press.
6. Improve stability of unit when user has selected a customized color scheme and is viewing tide station information.
7. Improve the autozoom feature when viewing an active autoroute on the Map page. When momentarily going to the Turn Preview page and then returning to the Map page, the autozoom distance is maintained instead of defaulting to the manual zoom distance.
8. Improve review of address and intersection on Map page to have full text instead of just first street.
9. Enhance visibility of paths in map Topo Great Britain v2.

The GARMIN GPSMAP76CS / GPSMAP76CSx is easy to use, supports multiple languages, has a large, easy to read color display, an extremely sensitive antenna, an integrated world map (overview) plus a base map of Europe, Africa and the near East. Beside the GPS receiver, the GPSMAP76CS / GPSMAP76CSx has an electronic compass and a barometrical altimeter. In addition, the GPSMAP76CS has 115 MB of built-in memory to store even more detailed information, such as local roads, restaurants and points of interest. The GPSMAP76CSx has a slot for a standard micro SD memory card in the battery compartment. It provides special features for marine use, such as off course, anchor drag or shallow water alarms.
